Confidentiality

'Confidentiality' means that whatever you decide to share within your session will stay between you and the counsellor. There are only a couple of situations where information may be legally required to be passed on:

  • If you are at risk of significantly hurting yourself.

  • If you know that someone else is at risk of significant harm.

Child protection and issues of confidentiality will be discussed in further detail in your first session with the counsellor.

Do I need my Parents consent?

If you are over 16 years of age then consent from your parents is not essential, although it is great if your parents are aware that you are seeing a counsellor.

If you are under 16 years of age then the counsellor will decide whether consent is neccessary (Gillic Competent).

In most cases we find that parents want to be involved in some way to help support you outside of the sessions.

This can be explained in more detail in your first session.
